What you should know about table sauces

Ketchup

Table sauces (mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup ...) add a lot of flavor to hot dogs, fried and grilled meats and fried foods in general (french fries, fried egg ...). In addition, they are sold in inexpensive plastic or glass jars, so there are no restrictions when it comes to wearing as much as we want, right?

However, abusing the so-called table sauces can harm health due to their sodium content and their high percentage of calories. Here we tell you what you should know about the most popular table sauces so that you take it into account when seasoning your dishes.

Mayonnaise: It is the sauce that contains the most calories (around 100 per tablespoon), which is why it must be consumed in moderation. Eating mayonnaise every day can affect weight and even cholesterol levels in a matter of weeks, even if it is low in fat, since sugar and starch are often added to light mayonnaise. So consume it in moderation, two or three tablespoons a week at the most.

Mustard: The sodium intake of mustard is between 30 and 125 mg per teaspoon, when the daily limit is 2.300, which represents about 15 percent of the maximum amount of sodium that is recommended to people. As with mayonnaise, mustard should also be consumed in moderation, always trying to buy those with the least amount of sodium per teaspoon (a tip: Dijon ones tend to be the highest in sodium).

Ketchup: Tomato sauce provides about 4 grams (1 teaspoon) of sugar per tablespoon), most of which is added sugar, a high amount considering that, to maintain good health, we should not aspire to more of nine teaspoons a day.
