Strength Training - How Many Times Per Week?

Alessandra Ambrosio

Cardio exercise burns calories, but to lose weight more efficiently you need to build muscle as the body gets rid of fat. And that can only be achieved through strength training.

The question that many people ask themselves, especially those who are not very fans of this type of exercise, is how often do you have to lift weights or do bodyweight exercises to get a well-toned body? Quiet, maybe it's a lot less than you think:

If you only want to strengthen and tone your muscles, it is enough to do some type of strength training three to four times a week. Even just two sessions may suffice. As for the duration of each session, 30 minutes is enough. And it is that, unlike cardio, not by lengthening it more, we will achieve greater results. It is about working as many muscles as possible with maximum dedication in the shortest possible time.

Throw constant challenges into your musclesLike plank and other exercises based on maintaining a single position for a certain time, during strength training, it increases the time that muscles spend under tension, which also helps to strengthen them more efficiently.

There is no ideal routine, but the configuration of these sessions and the exercises you do should depend on your goals. Bodyweight –working with your own body weight: squats, push-ups, etc.– can be enough if you only want more toned muscles ... which is not a small thing. Adding some weights or resistance is a good strategy for people who are not only looking to tighten their muscles, but also to increase their size.
