Why are juices not part of a healthy diet?

Glass of orange juice

Juices or fruit juices have long been the focus of nutritionists and personal trainers, who flag this food as "falsely healthy", a category that also includes multigrain breads or energy bars.

Drinking canned juices regularly increases the risk of diabetes by 21 percent. As for the natural ones, it is better to have a freshly squeezed juice than a soft drink, but they are also not advisable as part of a healthy diet.

Since, when we squeeze a fruit, most of its nutrients (fiber, healthy fats, protein, carbohydrates, minerals, and vitamins) are left behind, it's safe to say that a juice is basically sugar.

A single glass of juice can represent up to one hundred percent of the maximum recommended sugar intake per day, which is why many experts believe that the place of this drink is in the weekend lunch, but not in the daily diet.

The rest of the week, the ideal is to eat fresh fruit and vegetables so as not to waste their nutrients. Smoothies also allow us to access most of them, although we must remember that they are usually associated with a greater number of calories, so it is best to prepare them yourself to make sure that they do not contain added sugars and that they do not exceed the number of calories we can burn.

Although squeezing the fruit should not be seen as harmful, it is not as healthy as we thought until now. Consider eating your fruits and vegetables whole whenever possible and, if you want to prepare a drink to go, go for crushed instead of squeezed; this way you will be able to conserve important nutrients like fiber.
