Can healthy foods stop being healthy? And if so, at what point does a meal stop being beneficial to being nutritionally empty and even detrimental to people's health?
The following are three examples of healthy foods that you may be eating the wrong way and what to do to remedy it.
bean
They are inexpensive and low in fat, which is why including them in your diet is an excellent idea. The problem is, many come in cans lined with bisphenol A, a chemical that has been linked to cancer, heart disease, and early puberty. In addition, canned beans are high in sodium. In this way, the best strategy is to soak and boil them before eating them or, better yet, go for the dry varieties, which come in bags and you can cook yourself as you wish.
Apple
Perfect for lunch or a snack thanks to its sweetness, juiciness and richness in fiber (which satiates the appetite), most of its vitamins and minerals are found in the skin. If you peel your apples before eating them, you are giving up vitamins A and C, calcium, folate, and iron. So make sure you sink your teeth into them with their skin intact, and if they are organic apples even better.
Broccoli
Although they can be eaten raw, most choose to boil these florets to soften both their flavor and texture. What happens is that cooking is not the healthiest method, as it strips broccoli of its nutritional value. Next time you put this vegetable on the menu, try lightly steam or sauté for just a few minutes, just enough to soften the stems and turn them bright green.
