12% of women will be affected by breast cancer at some point in their lives, or what is the same about 1 in 8. This is a statistic that commands a lot of respect, but the good news is that it is in the hands of women to reduce the risk to develop it, adopting healthier habits.
Avoid fried foods, sugar and any greasy foods and instead sticking to a nutritious diet that includes fruit (rich in antioxidants), vegetables, whole grains, healthy fats like avocado or olive oil, legumes and lean protein can reduce the risk of breast cancer.
Staying physically active it is another fundamental habit in the prevention of breast cancer. A sedentary lifestyle puts health at risk, including an increased probability of suffering from any kind of cancer, including breast cancer. For this reason, you have to make sure you face challenges that raise your heart rate and put all your organs to work, such as running or, if sports are not your thing, taking several brisk walks a week.
Get regular checkups It should be a priority. And we don't mean just mammograms, but DNA tests, blood tests, and even home tests. You do not have to obsess, but you do have to bear in mind that all prevention is little when it comes to detecting cancer in its early stages and thus being able to make the best decisions for your health.
Improving the lifestyle in general is the best action we can take against breast cancer. Give up smoking, not drinking alcohol (or reserving it only for special occasions) and not skipping any meal will represent a great leap in the prevention of this disease if we add it to all of the above. And if you already lead a healthy lifestyle, stop and evaluate it, because there is always something that can be improved.
