How to create your own meditation space at home

Meditation space at home

Did you know that meditation is a practice with the power to significantly improve people's lives? In addition, it is quite easy to integrate it into everyday life, since 10 minutes is enough (although we can extend it as much as we need) and we can do it in our own home.

The following tips will help you create your own meditation space at home. You will soon begin to rest better, reduce your stress, and increase your ability to stay present and combat anxiety. The fault is the feeling of calm and renewed energy that it causes.

Choose a place where no one can disturb you. This means that you should avoid being near the kitchen, the living room or any other place in the house where there is the possibility of other people talking to you or simply passing by. The bedroom or office, if you have one, are the ideal rooms to place a meditation space.

Locate your meditation space as close to natural light as possible. Bright light helps you be present (and not fall asleep). If you normally have uncontrollable thoughts during your practice, try meditating in dim light. In this case, the best method is to use candles to illuminate, as they also play a reassuring role.

Choose a seat. You can sit on a chair, on a cushion, or on a blanket on the floor. What you like most. The important thing is that your seat allows you to remain in an upright position, since it is the posture that helps us to be alert, present and in the moment.

Incense, candles and essential oil diffusers will help you create a pleasant environment. However, its role goes beyond the simple aromatization of space. Certain smells evoke emotions, moods, and feelings that can play an important role in your meditation.

Seek maximum comfort through objects such as pillows and blankets. Even you can add to the space a mini tea bar with your favorite relaxing mixes. Set it aside and sip a cup before or after meditation to help invigorate your senses and encourage your sense of presence.

Decorate the space in a way that exudes serenity. For some people, that means neutral colors, while for others it means vivid yellows and blues. Also, try to add something from nature - such as a plant, stones, crystals or seashells - to enhance the relaxing and healing character of the space.

Meditation music helps block thoughtsas well as noise from roommates and neighbors. To do this, you can connect a small speaker to your smartphone (but make sure to put it in airplane mode so that nobody bothers you). If you are lucky enough to live in a quiet house, you may prefer to meditate in silence.
