Ingredients and sweeteners to limit sugar intake

Agave

El sugar it is everywhere, and not always where it is believed. It is not easy to select things among those that are healthy for your health, such as the natural fructose contained in fruits, in honey, and glucose-fructose chemical, derived from corn starch, which floods mass-market products. The latter, although it does not increase blood sugar too much, is stored in the form of fat. Refering to saccharose, or white sugar, should be avoided during the diet period, since it increases blood sugar.

Agave syrup

It is the sap of a Mexican cactus, and its sweetening power is more important than that of the sugar white, but its glycemic index much lower than that of honey, which allows to avoid insulin spikes. It is essentially made up of fructose, a sugar that we also find in fruits. Be careful in any case, since 100 grams of agave syrup contains 310 calories.

Maple syrup

This syrup comes from the maple sap brought to a boil. With a sweetening power 1,4 times higher than that of sugar white, is rich in vitamin B, proteins and minerals such as zinc, calcium, potassium or manganese. Its glycemic index is lower than that of sugar. With its 260 calories per 100 grams, it is advisable to be careful when following a regimen.

The sukrin

Used in Japan since 1990, and in the United States since 1997, sukrin was authorized in Europe through a directive dating back to 2006. 100% naturally derived, the index glycemic of this product is zero, that is, 0 calories. It comes from the fermentation that leads to the crystallization of glucose, and that offers the same structure and appearance as the sugar.

Stevia

Coming from a plant marketed in powder and liquid form, the famous stevia it is 100 to 300 times higher in its power over white sugar. Today it finds its place as a sweetener compatible with diets for diabetics and regimes hypoglycemic, because it acts very little on the level of glucose in the blood, since it has 0 calories. It is perfect for sweetening hot drinks, and we usually find it in sodas.
