Differentiate natural, mixed and roasted coffee

coffee

Coffee, that great drink that wakes us up every morning and gives us a little boost of energy to overcome all the laziness and objectives of the first hours of the day. We can find coffee, as we well know, in different formats, either in germ whole, ground or instant coffee.

This time we are interested in the ground coffee. There are three types that are very widespread, but do you really know the difference between natural, mixed and roasted coffee?

These types arise from the type of roasting that is carried out to obtain the final product from the whole grain. When coffee is roasted, a reaction occurs that releases substances that cause the coffee to take that smell and taste so recognizable.

The longer the bean is roasted, the darker and more bitter the coffee will be.. Therefore, the lower the roast it will lead to a fresher coffee with a more fruity aroma. When choosing which roast to roast the coffee bean, it will always depend on the type of bean, for example, arabica coffee has a lighter roast, while robusta coffee will be stronger.

Coffee types

  • Roasted: this type of coffee is a coffee that has had a roasting process which has been added sugar, up to a maximum of 15%. The coffee beans are mixed with the sugar and brought to temperatures close to 200º, the sugar caramelizes and creates a film on the bean that protects it. In its origins this practice was carried out as preservation method of the grain itself and that coffee aromas disappear. To this day it is not recommended to those who suffer from diabetes because of this added proportion of sugar.
  • Nature: As its name indicates, the bean has been roasted naturally without additives. This is the simplest coffee because it has not been made no extra elaboration.
  • Mixture: Blend coffee means that the result is the combination of the two types of coffee of origin, that is, the mixture of arabica and robust. This provides more acidity, taste and aroma to the coffee. Multiple variations of mixtures can be produced, for this reason we find a large number of coffees on the market.

To this day the least consumed is roasted, and as time passes the proportion of this together with the natural one is lower, we speak of proportions of 80% natural 20% roasted. Either way, be it one or the other, many of the people would not be "people" without a cup of this drink.
