What is botulism?

botulism

Botulism is an infectious disease caused by a toxin called the Clostridium botulinum bacillus. There are 3 kinds of botulism: food botulism caused by eating foods that contain this toxin due to poor packaging and preservation processes, wound botulism caused by the colonization of a wound, and infant botulism, which is when microorganisms colonize the intestine.

People diagnosed with botulism disease are given a treatment in which they are given a serum containing antibodies against the toxin bacillus clostridium botulinum. Depending on the severity of the case, enemas and / or gastric lavages are also performed to avoid the absorption of toxins that have remained in the digestive system.

General symptoms of the 3 kinds of botulism:

> Retention of liquids.

> Paralysis of the nervous system.

> Respiratory disorders.

> Paralysis of the muscles of the head.

> Difficulty speaking and swallowing.

> Muscle weakness.

> Fainting.

> Dry mouth and tongue.

> Decreased blood pressure.

> Blurred vision.

> Dizziness.
