Diet to combat ulcerative colitis

eat well

Ulcerative colitis is a disorder suffered by a large number of people today. Below we detail a dietary regimen that you can put into practice to combat it. Of course, before doing it you should make a consultation with your clinical doctor.

In order to put this diet into practice, you will have to avoid physical activity and eat any food, seasoning or preparation that is not detailed in the dietary plan. You will also have to drink as much water as possible daily and sweeten your infusions with honey or sugar.

Example of daily menu:

Breakfast: 1 infusion, 1 glass of orange juice and 1 whole wheat toast.

Mid-morning: low-fat yogurt.

Lunch: 1 portion of beef, rice salad and hard-boiled egg and bananas.

Mid-afternoon: 1 glass of skim milk and 5 almonds and / or hazelnuts.

Snack: 1 infusion, 1 glass of orange juice and 1 whole wheat toast.

Dinner: 1 portion of pasta or hake fillet, asparagus salad, potatoes and endives and apples.

Before going to bed: 1 cup of chamomile tea.

There is no diet to fight ulcerative colitis. A diet can be done when there is an outbreak, especially with little residue, and depending on whether the outbreak is with diarrhea or stenosis.
The diet is very variable and depends on each patient, in this, for example, asparagus and endives are recommended, both with high fiber content? ¿? ¿? With diarrhea? with stenosis?

It is also said that you should avoid practicing any physical activity? This is totally counterproductive, a moderate activity is ideal, in addition many of us must fight osteoporosis or ostopenia, for what is essential is physical activity.

Yes, and what do you tell me about whole wheat bread, the glass of skim milk and the orange juice !!! by God, you take this cd you are in bud and it gives you something ...

It is true that there is no diet to combat ulcerative colitis, each one of us knows very well which foods to tolerate and which ones not, in periods of remission of course, since during outbreaks we are all clear that we must follow a fairly strict regimen, without fiber, seasonings and even suspend dairy products, I think that our disease is rather psychoorganic when you can enjoy food and when not to refer to diet and medications is the best goodbye and greetings to all who suffer from this than in reality it sucks.

It was what I thought, this diet is a lively one! You have to be very careful in outbreaks and generally when people search for diets on the internet that is when they are.

the best for sprouts is a little bread with little olive oil, to eat rice and grilled chicken fillet, cooked potato, cooked turkey ham, apple without skin, apple jam, skimmed white cheese, and eat normal without excesses and several times a day, Chamomile infusion. Depending on how you feel you can increase your imagination in the diet but with care.

Hello to whom it may concern, I suffer from that discomfort and it appears to you overnight my worst enemy is stress, and believe me it's horrible, I had a big change in my metabolism and I even lost 25 pounds in my change of I took my doctor off practically everything, milk and its derivatives, sausages, breads, (only barley and bran, rye, those that taste like cardboard, hahaha, horrible, well those if I could eat them), I could not eat meat, flours, tortillas, only 2 corn and dehydrated, no coffee, no sugars, pasta, many vegetables, except for broccoli, pumpkin and cabbage, these give you a lot of gas and flammable, only romaine lettuce, a lot of fish, chicken tuna. Additions nothing only, a little olive oil, lemon salt pepper garlic that if all the fruits you want, yogurt, only the white or the natural one I put fruit, walnuts and oats, because if we can eat walnuts, almonds, granola oats and all nutrition bars, such as oatmeal and honey, walnut with apple, etc. and also a lot of fiber, lactose-free milk, or almonds, I made my menus and had a lot of improvement, I did not get sick for about 3 years but then one begins to leave the diet and I begin to relapse I hope that my advice will help you and tips

I am not very clear about it the first attack gave me a year ago; or and it was repeated the next; or what can I do to beat this disease, there are foams and supusitories which of these give better results waiting for someone to help me thanks

Hello . It seems barbarous to me that we find this way to pass on data. About the diet. a horror.! please find people who know. I tell you: years ago the doctor who treats me saw a young woman heal from this shit disease, thanks to the celiac diet, of course with some changes, for my part I am trying, there are some alternatives that are not as ugly as just apple or rice cakes. Last night I had pizza, with rice flour and cassava with cornstarch. cheese without tac, natural ham without tac, and natural tomatoes. I'm a novice at this so I hope it works for someone. Cris.

7 years ago I was diagnosed with UC and in relation to diets what I can comment on is the following.
Having a flare for me means that your colon is inflamed, possibly ulcerated and not working well. So the right thing to do is to eat foods that are easy to digest, plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration, white cheeses (fresh), jellies, toasts, foods without residues, without fats, not to eat fried foods, etc.
Dairy products are not recommended, be careful with that.

After suffering from this disease for several years I have come to the conclusion that what triggers an outbreak (in my case) is stress and by focusing my treatment on controlling it, I have felt pretty good for quite some time. For this reason, I recommend that you pay great attention to stress in your life, which can be generated by work, children, money and many other issues.
OBS. If they know another person who suffers from this disease, they will be able to realize that he is a responsible person, concerned about his family, about his work, about improving himself day by day, etc.
What I mean by this is that people who live a relaxed life do not suffer from this disease. Hence where I think that by managing Stress, the disease can be controlled and thus improve the quality of life.
I hope this comment helps you in something.

Hello everyone, I am 34 years old and I have been with CU for almost 4 years, and I am the mother of twins who are almost 4 years old, stress is bad, but you will be with me when I say that those who are nervous and active do not do things to stress , but because they come out like this, it is his decisive way before life, doing things the best he knows how, or trying to do it even better and every day more things, with which you are raising your goals and everything seems to you that It can improve. That is stress, but you don't realize that you do too much Your doctors (digestive and psychologist) tell you to delegate, to relax, to look for your inner beach, all this is fine, if others can go to work For me, to take the children to school, be with them when they are not at school, take care of the house, and pay the mortgage I think that then, I will be able to try to relax, but I want to ask you to be more realistic, I know that when I am admitted, I «heal» the outbreak, and I return home better, but it is day by day that makes me sick, and I have to live that day by day, with or without diet, with or without stress, I am sick but alive, and I have to live, I'll relax, when I'm dead, we think?
Although it is that between the diet the psychologist and some relaxation, even if it is, the half hour that I can be reading after a day, normal with twins, husband, work and home, it can be considered relaxing to read at 24.45 at night , You are better than when you did not have these aids, but well we will continue to take it as we can, also being a woman if the outbreak coincides with the menstrual period, as I am now, it is something horrible, but it is what it is, a kiss and take care ... ..

Well I agree with the majority ... it is a lack of irresponsibility to publish a diet like this to control a disease as serious as UC, most of us from what I have read we have already lived with this for years and we realize it but NOT the people who were unfortunately recently diagnosed and who are looking for HELP. I have been 3 years now and everything has touched me, at the beginning it is difficult, a lot because you get depressed your life changes completely, your way of seeing life is different and with the passage of time you assimilate things and learn to live with She, also in my opinion, is a very misunderstood disease and sometimes you have to face it alone, only the people closest to you will support you like your parents are ... but there is no evil that for good does not come, this is controlled and lived « good »with it ... The thing about stress ... well it is almost impossible to avoid it I have learned not to worry about certain things but stress is always present in others or in new things ... well it was a lot of trouble .. this is my email and people You may like to add me to talk and be able to exchange "tips", since as we have read the information on the web is not always very reliable ... Greetings and take care ... alex_roz@hotmail.com

No matter the name, I have been with UC for 16 years. It is a time bomb type disease, whatever you do, it always comes back, I have a colonoscopy every year or a year and a half. I am taking sulfazalazine 500mg 2 tab 3 times a day. I get better x time, one has to learn to live with UC as the healthiest thing without powdered condiments, all natural, little egg, nothing dairy, when I am well I tone a cup of yogurt, chamomile and mint tea, sometimes a flower or lemon tea , cpn 3 whole grain cookies, there are days that I eat something that I like but not exedo. I also take the aloe 3 or 4 a day it refreshes a lot, be careful, no soft drinks or pepsi or cola I forgot they exist, meat, chicken and fish, nothing fried, cooked the most natural

Hello everyone, I am 28 years old, I have suffered from this disease for 5 years, I have already been admitted to the hospital 3 times, first 15 days, then only 2 days. The truth is that UC is incomprehensible, it is true that it comes from stress that sometimes you do not realize ... and I think also due to the change of weather. As for the food, it is very personal, since some feel bad and others do not, but it is clear that you cannot eat leeks, legumes that give a lot of gases, also do not abuse much fried and whole milk either. skimmed milk feels good and the rest we have to know if we tolerate it or not ... it depends on each one.
My treatment forever I take CLAVERSAL pills, does that sound familiar? It is to protect the intestine, I always take them before eating, 3 times a day. You also have to take infusions such as chamomile, relax ...
I'm looking forward to how to avoid this so I don't fall again because this is horrible and unbearable. Thank you all for these comments.

Please !! I get to eat all that and they admit me, it is an explosive combination!… .Thanks but it happened. The best thing we can do is consult a doctor. I agree with liliana….

Well the truth is that I'm crying a bit, I'm 24 years old and I've been with CU for 4 years and I had never thought of a forum or something similar… .thanks to this "bad" diet I found all your comments and the truth is that it is good to connect with people who live the same as you, because there is not much to explain ... we understand perfectly what you feel, what you are talking about ...
The truth is that I believe that this is generated by our own body, we share the particularity that our daily or frequent problems have a direct impact on this area ... but I also know that in our head is the calm of those outbreaks, the stress will always be, we are people urban after all right ??
It's not easy ... I'm just with an outbreak a couple of days ago, after being practically a year without discomfort, and the truth is that in addition to the pain and all the symptoms, the first thing that grabs me is anger and impotence, but also I know that this is my first mistake ... because that's where the chain begins ... in my case before I got sick, I always ate very healthy really, luckily thanks to that I don't suffer much from the diets that we should do ... but I do recognize that when I'm Without outbreaks, like this last year, I forget about UC that I start to eat not so well and if it agrees with any concern, there this time again ... but hey there are so many other worse diseases that sometimes I prefer it ..
Do you always take the medicines? or do they leave them in clean periods?
thanks for sharing and I leave my mail: silchalamu@hotmail.com
I am from Argentina, Bariloche, but I have been living in Neuquen for a short time, thank you and think positively !!! I heard yoga also helps in our cases!

Hello, I never had the opportunity to see this site, I find it interesting. I live in Chile, in the Coquimbo region. I work in health and my father has suffered from ulcerative colitis for 13 years. His crises have increased in the last two, moreover 15 days ago he came out of a two-month hospitalization, also suffering as a consequence with anemia and severe malnutrition. I can say that I have done everything to recover it, I go out of my way thinking about a balanced and varied diet now that he is at home, because in the hospital he was fed up with the food that obviously they cannot prepare special menus. Well, fundamentally, the idea is that I eat food every two or three hours, probiotics have served me, a lot of skim or semi-skimmed lactose-free milk with additives (potato starch, cooked rice through a blender, infant rice and apple cereal, cornstarch) the banana, and cooked fruit (quince, apple, papaya) and as a novelty two days ago I found a delicacy of soy milk to leave a little of the peach and papaya jam. I have asked the nutritionist a lot, since I have the option of doing it to create some recipes or several others that she usually prepared. Thank God that he has given me a taste for cooking

Hello everybody!!! Well first I hope you are all well and with all the positive energies, since that is very important !! I also follow a diet that the doctor gives you since the diet is also very important !!
Well, I also have ulcerative colitis and reading all these comments, it seems to me that it is super to support each other, since only we understand what happens to us ... but the only bad thing is that nobody named God in this forum ... I think nothing in This world will serve us if he is not in the first place ... the center of our life, it does not have to be our disease ... the center of our life has to be Jesus Christ.
and only he can give us the peace and strength we need to live each day! Jesus and the Virgin !!
and well, just that to ask them for help !! they will not hesitate to help us !! kisses !! and good luck !!!

Reading this page I am going to tell you about my experience so that you can draw your conclusions in December of last year I was hospitalized I was diagnosed with UCR by a gastroenterologist who did a colonoscopy and not a biopsy, I had previously taken a stool exam where I had GIARDIA LAMBLIA, This parasite is very seldom detected by feces and since stool cultures did not appear, this doctor placed me on treatment and sent me to the psychologist, because it turns out that I did not improve and 7 months later a very ethical Dr. sent me to perform the giardia lamblia serology Resulting positive, because friends that is the supposed RCU that that doctor diagnosed, I mean, I have a cystic parasitosis which has been damaging my intestines and if it is not for Dr Marquez, the RCU would still be treating me. This parasite is very harmful when it reproduces in the body, I am still taking even home remedies to get rid of that horrible little animal that has hurt me so much.

Hello, what is all this about the diet to cure ... ulcerative colitis, »THIS DISEASE HAS NO CURE» .. MY GASTROENTEROLOGIST, I RECOMMEND skimmed milk, «cooked» fruits and vegetables, nothing raw, no cold cuts and spicy ... medication that is for life ... I use suppositories and I was taking medication, but I did a diet of healthy foods and I no longer take the pills except the suppositories to preventrrr.and the annual check-ups. Thank GOD I have not had bleeding for almost 2 years. Please, they would have to look at what they allow to publish this disease is not fucking from ARGENTINA.

Hi, I have my 12-year-old son and unfortunately he suffers from this disease and like all of you I agree that the published diet is disgusting. What his doctor recommends to my son is a diet low in fiber and zero food that contains whole grains such as some cereals, breads, and of course they took away the broccoli, cauliflower, onion etc. forever. That they are foods high in bifra is very hard especially because he is very young for that disease but something that I had already noticed is that he is very nervous and worries about everything and takes 2 weeks he had a project at school which stressed him a lot And if the next day he had an outbreak that hospitalized him for 3 days. So my advice is that medications and diets help you a lot but stress is the main enemy in this disease. so it is better to try to live a more relaxed life. And as a mother I know that what he said is difficult to do but not impossible. Good luck to all.

I had UC in 2002 and went through a tremendous treatment of pills (I hit 12 per day) with no major results. I lost a lot of weight and suffered more. When they tried to switch me to corticosteroids in an enema, I got a book on HOMEOPATHY. It was my solution. With one intake of my homeopathic medication, this disease disappeared, until now, when I had an outbreak in January that I am treating with the same medicine. In other words, for 9 years I never remembered what had happened to me again. And I know that now it will be the same. In fact, I am still having some discomfort, since it started when I was traveling on vacation and did not have access to my doctor and medication (I was in Cuba). Since I returned, I am much better, and I came to this forum, because my Husband insists that I watch my meals, and I don't remember what is best or worst for UC. Hopefully I will bring you a chance to take another look at this, because I was able to say that "I had had an episode of CU" and I hope to say that, after many years, it was repeated once. Homeopathy allowed me not to feel sick with UC. And, for now, I am someone who took this much fewer times than the flu and that does not make me "sick with the flu." Find out, look for good homeopaths, don't resign yourself to wearing this like a cross. I hope it serves you

Hello, I have 10 years with this disease (colitis) but it has never led me to have to be hospitalized, thank God! but 2 years ago more or less it has gotten worse! Before, I didn't have a strict diet, but now I have to do it if I don't want to have an inflamed stomach and in pain! , worse is on my menstrual days! But I think my symptoms got worse now that I am more nervous and worried about my son who turned out with the same disease! He is 10 years old and since he was little he suffered from abdominal pain but it never occurred to me that he had the same thing as me until now that abdominal pain gives him very strong times! And notice that it was when I ate bread or soda or fried food! the doctors said it was colitis! He has already been diagnosed with this for a year. Well, I have gotten worse with my symptoms for worrying about him, always thinking that I will feed him that does not hurt him! ,,,,
But one tip that I would like to give you is that when you get those strong abdominal pain and your belly becomes like a balloon of how inflamed it gets, immediately take a seat of water, that is, get into a bathtub, baby bathtub or something in which they can get into the water as hot as they can tolerate, but only the stomach and buttocks will get into the water! without getting your feet wet at all and giving yourself a belly massage in circles. About 15 minutes in water!
and you will see how it immediately relieves the symptoms!
But of course this disease must be treated, and food is basic if we want to feel good!
My problem is stress, and nerves!
    greetings to all!!!!

(Tomato and avocado are fruits and are good to take care of colitis) Citrus is also prohibited, irritants such as chili, coffee, caffeinated tea (except chamomile), fat is prohibited. Pasta and flour, roasted meat and fish are allowed, aloe, papaya, tomato and apple are great. Dairy of all kinds is forbidden. The egg does not hurt. As simple as that. Follow the diet for a month and that's it.

Yogurt and milk? They are crazy? Dairy is extremely prohibited with colitis.

Hello everyone, after almost a year they have found my problem and it is CU, I am a little lost because everything is new to me. My doctor has not advised me anything about eating, he has only told me to eat a healthy diet so I have no idea what to eat, I have already seen some examples that I thank you for. Thanks

    Dairy products? Yogurt? No way!!
I do not question the good faith of this information, however, for me personally it has elements that are not recommended at all, which are also far from the common recommendations for living with this disease.

I have been with UC for 5 months it is terrible, they have already performed a number of tests and I have been taking medications for 3 months but the truth is that they have been useless, now because I have taken a lot of medication the gastritis is bothering me and I feel that my stomach is going to explode, the doctor does not send me a strict diet and I want you to help me find a Homeopathic book where I can find natural solutions to my disease CU this has me super bad, very down.

I suffer from it and the best thing is to keep a positive attitude and not let yourself get decayed, because many people and I am inclined to lose this attitude due to nerves and stress. disease and remember God is the best doctor

Hello everyone, I was diagnosed with UC at 1 year, I am trying to follow a diet but it is almost impossible, I was recommended an energy therapist (I work with magnets) to many people who I talk to are amazed when I tell them that one day in the afternoon I went to a magnets session and all that night I felt very good and the most surprising thing the next day I woke up I did not have a single drop of bleeding, check this option on the internet there is a page called biomagnetismomedico.org or any other that has to do with energy treatment with magnets, Greetings to all and God bless you, take care of you and keep you well.

Hello my people, I have suffered from UC for 11 years, I was diagnosed with the disease when I was 21 years old. I live in Switzerland. I recommend a diet of potato with cassava (manec). Especially those days when the disease is altered and they don't know what else to do. The diet consists of eating potatoes and cassava, the best way is in soup. They can add meat or vegetables, such as carrots, squash, onion ... with some vegetables such as lettuce or cabbage they have to be cautious. The soup can be made in different ways, for example a potato cream. For dessert, I recommend eating Blueberry every day. I highly recommend this diet; It helps me every time I am very bad. With this diet they still have to take the medicines, because it does not cure the disease but it improves it a lot.

    This diet is a beast!
I have CUC and in bud none of that is recommended and out of bud many of them are not either!
Having ulcers in the intestines, you have to avoid hurting them, imagine throwing alcohol or vinegar on a wound? It is the same, and so with foods that irritate.
Bread can be consumed as toast, natural juices, coffee, tea, alcohol, avoid them as well as flour and bakery products and sweets.
Fruits such as apples or quinces are ideal to consume in compote and the banana can be eaten normally.
Dairy products are often intolered by people with IBD, there are exceptions such as eggs and cheese that many of us like.
At outbreak, the ideal is to eat rice and polenta, in addition to meat and products with probiotics.

Chamomile, mallow or mint tea if it is good, as well as taking olive oil from time to time.

Please be more careful in talking about diets on complicated diseases
